This epic film, written and directed by John Hughes, stars Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy. It also stars Paul Gleason as Shermer High School’s Vice Principal, Richard “Dick” Vernon. He’s a grumpy, non-nonsense bully who likes to tell the kids if they mess with the bull, they’ll get the horns.
What is The Breakfast Club About
The Breakfast Club tells the story of five high-school teens, a Jock, a Princess, an Outcast, a Geek, and a Delinquent, who spend a Saturday together in detention, where they are told not to sleep, move from their seats, or talk. Each is assigned a thousand-word essay in which they must describe “Who They Think They Are.”
As they get to know each other and reveal details about their lives, they begin to realize the importance of social connections, self-respect, empathy, and learning to understand different perspectives. Everyone in the audience can relate to one of the five fictional characters in one way or another. Left to their own accord, you can imagine what happens when the cliques collide.
The Best John Hughes Film EVER
The Breakfast Club premiered in 1985. It is one of the best John Hughes films of all time and grossed over $51 million at the box office. There have been whispers of a remake, but thankfully they have not come to fruition. If you’re a fan of The Breakfast, I’m sure you would agree. There is no need to re-do a masterpiece.
